Secondary shrubs and secondary forest on seasonally wet, swampy gray soils on the place of extinct primary swamp forest at elevation about 700 m a.s.l.
Shrub2-4 m tall among private agricultural vegetable fields. Flowers light lilac. Common as cultivated ornamental plant.
