Northern Vietnam, Lao Cai Prov., Van Ban Distr., to the west of Nam Xay village (1 km to the W of point 21°59′00′'N, 104°02′00′'E). Primary broad-leaved evergreen wet submontane forest with Dacrycarpus imbricatus on granite and quartzite steep slopes at elev. about 1300 m a.s.l. Terrestrial herb 0.4 m hg. Common. Occasional co-dominant of herb stratum, especially in wet places.
