Northern Vietnam, Lao Cai Prov., Van Ban Distr., to the west of Nam Xay village (1 km to the W of point 21°59′00′'N, 104°02′00′'E). Primary broad-leaved evergreen wet submontane forest with Fokienia hodginsii on granite and quartzite steep slopes at elev. 1200-1350 m a.s.l. Shrub about 3 m hg. Common. Occasional co-dominant of shrub stratum.
