Ha Giang Prov., Quan Ba Distr., Cao Ma Po Commune, Then Van 1 Village, Binh Mountain, around point 23.09452°N 104.84831°E, steep rocky slopes composed with highly eroded limestone at elevation 1400–1600 m a.s.l. Remnants of primary evergreen broad-leaved very humid forest with plantation of “wild-grown” Amomum. Terrestrial, lithophytic or occasionally epiphytic herb to 1 m tall on steep rocky slope. Flowers light yellowish with many small purple-brown marks. Common. 4 October 2019, L. Averyanov, Nguyen Sinh Khang, T. Maisak, VR 1283 (holotype – LE01066912, isotype – HN, LE01061217 – photo). From closest M. ovalifolia new species differs in glabrous leaves with cuneate base (vs. leaves with rounded to subcordate base, hairy on both surfaces) and pendulous, many branched, many flowered inflorescence bearing normally at least 30 flowers or more (vs. inflorescence erect with 3-12 flowers).
